I’ve been teaching my e-mail class, WPSS (that’s what we call it for short) since fall of 2006. In working with about anywhere between 80-100 moms a year, I have learned a ton. And according to them, so have they. Here’s some of their comments from the last class:
You can read all the great books, magazines and blogs on writing — but they don’t offer one thing that you can get from this class: personal feedback. An instructor who can look over your work — to identify your strengths and weaknesses — is something no book can do. Christina Katz does the job well and organizes her class to focus on the writing with a little support from classmates by keeping it all in email. There’s no distraction or stress that comes with figuring out how to use online forums, web conferencing and other e-classroom tools.
~ M. K. Evans
This class helped me focus on my subject matter and reminded me of how fun it is to write! A fabulous way to spend six weeks and have a great deal to show for it when the class concludes!
~ L. Brownell
I’ve been writing my entire life but this class taught me what to do with my writing to get it in print! thank you.
~ L. Stephens
Christina Katz’s WPSS class took me on a personal writing journey. She “gets” what it’s like to be a mom and a writer and helped me discover how I can balance both aspects of my life. The assignments were useful and Christina’s feedback gave me the confidence to submit them for publications. I highly recommend this class to other moms (and dads) needing a nudge or jumpstart to consistent writing and publication.
~ D. Mickelson
I loved the variety of writing that Christina explores in this class. I found myself capable of writing smart, well-researched pieces that I never imagined I could do. Christina creates a warm, encouraging, comfortable environment for new writers to try out different styles. A great class! I’m sorry to see it end.

Writing and Publishing the Short Stuff made it very easy for me to set goals and achieve them. I know now how to take a personal passion and turn it into a profession without sacrificing time away from my family.
~ J. Derkovitz
This class lives up to what it promises—teaching the most common short forms of writing in periodicals, along with useful tips for breaking in as a new freelance writer. As an added bonus, I’ve now developed a regular writing schedule from fulfilling the weekly assignments.
~ R. Cherba
[WPSS] was truly a well-planned course that I would recommend to any writer mama building a freelance career.
~ K. Gibson
