Today, May 5th, is the fifth discussion question for the Beyond Busy Global Monthly Book Club. We just finished Anne Lamott’s Some Assembly Required, A Journal of My Son’s First Son and now we will spend seven days discussing it. Anyone who has read the book can participate by commenting.
Our next book selection is the hot-off-the-presses Are You My Mother? by Alison Bechdel. You can join our public BBGMBC Facebook group, if you would like to join us in reading one excellent quality book per month and then discussing it here.
Some Assembly Required, A Journal of My Son’s First Son is written by Anne Lamott with Sam Lamott and published by Riverhead in 2012.
This question was suggested by Mary Lou Gomes. Thanks, Mary Lou!

Great question. I am a mom with small children and as someone who had her children I realize I may never be a grandmother which makes me sad. Perhaps because I am a mom I felt a desire to hear Amy’s perspective. I loved getting the insight into grandparents. I see the depth of love the grandparents have for my children but hearing such detailed examination of those feelings deepend my appreciation of the grandparents in my life and in my children’s lives.
Having just moved across the country from grandparents I could relate to Anne’s fear of Sam & Jax relocating and Amy’s desire to be close to family. I would expect this is a common issue in our mobile society.
Hey, Christina, is there a way to get an RSS for the BBGMBC? I don’t remember to participate beyond my first-day comment. I just had a brain flare and remembered, and you guys are on your fifth question. I joined the facebook group a few mins ago; maybe that’s the best way to get notifications. How the hell do YOU keep up? I’d love to see you post about your typical day. Best wishes!
Yes, you’ll see ongoing reminders in the FB group for the first seven days of each month with a link to each post. I have posted all seven questions but you can comment any time. Just click on this link: https://christinakatz.com/category/beyond-busy-global-monthly-book-club/
All the discussion posts will be tagged like this. 🙂
I wrote a whole book on how I do it. 😉 I think you have a copy of The Writer’s Workout already, yes?
