[Sorry to be running late today! I’m on deadline, as usual. But I really enjoy writing these CED posts, so I’m going to keep them up. Do you like them?]
I live in the Pacific Northwest, and you’ve probably heard that it rains buckets here all the time. This is not a rumor. From fall to spring, you start to feel like it rains every day, which makes us appreciate the sunny days, for sure.
But there’s a payoff for all this drip, drip, drip, and it’s the growth. Gardens grow all year long. Everything stays green and soft and fertile. The temperatures are mild, so it’s not so bad. It rarely snows and even when it does, it never lasts long. We’ve been living, here, at the top of the Willamette Valley for six and a half years and so far the record is snow on the ground lasting at most one whole week.
Before you hate me, the rest of the time it raining, it’s pouring, and occasionally, when we are lucky, the sun makes a quick cameo. We all cheer…and then grumble that the sun is getting in our eyes. (You get used to living in the gray after a while.)
In Samantha’s acrobatics class today one of the little dancers was crabby. Today was the day the parents got to go into the studio to watch the dancers. The little girl muttered while she stretched. She muttered through her bridges. She was about to mutter through the next stretch when her mother repeated again, “Honey, what’s wrong?” That was it—”Bwaaaaaah!” She burst into tears and ran into her mom’s arms. Everyone was fine. The dance class went on. And when she was done and calmer and happier, she went back to the mat to show off her headstand. She’s was pretty good at them, too.
This is the way it goes. We feel bad. We get crabby. And we need to cry so we can get back to green, soft, and fertile…and keep learning.
Have you cried lately? Good for you!

How true… “This is the way it goes.” I’ve had a few of these lately.
