Creative Every Day: Tune In & Listen

There are so many messages out there telling us to “listen” but so few of them are suggesting that we listen to the most powerful resource that we have available 24/7.

I’m not talking about tuning in to Perez Hitlon, I’m not talking about tuning in to Arianna Huffington, I’m even not talking about tuning in to beliefnet.com.

I’m talking about your gut, your intuition, your inner voice, your higher self…it doesn’t matter what you call it. But it does matter that you tune in and find your inner wisdom channel and stay tuned to it as much as possible.

If you are too busy, too stressed out, too cash poor, too depressed, too despondent, too confused, too overwhelmed, or too all of the above to tune in to the most valuable information that is available for you, you can easily get help.

There are plenty of resources and contexts, which can help you turn down the chatter in your head and tune in to the broadcast that is coming in a steady, uninterrupted stream from your heart.

But first you have to want to hear it. And second, you have to pull yourself away from all the things that set off the chatter in your mind in the first place. You might need some kind of practice to get out of action mode and into listening mode.

Tuning may be tricky at first, but I think you’ll find if you practice enough, you will get used to tuning in, and eventually it will become a quick and easy habit.

In the meantime, do whatever you need to do to prime the listening pump: take a walk, play with your pet, hug your kids, read an inspirational book, or get out a blank page and fill it with all the junk that is clogging your thinking.

The way you get to center is less important than that you get to center every day and tune back in many times throughout the day.

Listen. Your heart is a DJ who never sleeps.

The answers to the questions that you seek are being broadcast from the center of your heart night and day, day and night.

What is being broadcast from your heart? Have you tuned in lately?

Share if you want to. Or just tune in and keep what you hear to yourself.

Awesome blog post – this one really resounds with me. With writing I think you so have to go with your gut instinct – you’re the creator, no one else. No one would dream of telling an artist or a sculptor what to do. Sometimes though it takes confidence to listen + trust what your heart tells you. Thanks for this!

    Hi Christina,
Another great post. My heart is too mushy. The broadcast center I listen to is in my gut. That’s where I get true signals that help me navigate my life. To each her own body part!

    Christina,

I love this visual you have created of tuning into what’s in our hearts and broadcasting the message as we wish. The biggest challenge is always to sit still long enough to really listen to “the DJ who never sleeps.” Brilliant! Thank you for this delightful thought.

eautiful reminder for all of us. Two things help me listen to my inner voice come to mind immediately. One is relatively new. At the beginning of this year, I decided I wanted to focus more on the positive in my life. Now I’ve kept a gratitude journal off and on for years. I always write in it at night, but I wanted to do something different. I wanted to start my day off with gratitude. So I decided to do a gratitude meditation very morning and to pick one thing from that meditation to list as my first FB status every morning. I set one rule for myself – to avoid “copout” gratitude statements. This has helped me tremendously by setting my thoughts on the path I want every morning. Some mornings I have to meditate through things that are bothering me to get to gratitude, but it’s worth it.
The other thing I do to help me listen to my inner voice is yoga. Yes, I realize it’s another type of meditation, but it really helps me focus on what I’m trying to say/accomplish/be, etc.
There are a few other things I do on occasion, but those are my “go to” activities to help me listen to my inner voice.

I won’t ignore the gut, don’t worry, Toni. Heart first, gut second, for me.

Thanks, Kathleen. It’s a fun series to write. I’m glad I started it. πŸ™‚
