You are allowed to want things. Don’t let anyone tell you not to want what you know you want.
I don’t mean the superficial things. The things in passing that make you say, “Oh, that would be nice.”
Or even, “Well, that must be nice.”
I mean the things that stop and make you go, “Oh. Yes. I totally want that.”
Regardless of what it is: a house, a dress (see photo), a partner, a publisher, a….whatever. What it is that you want is really none of our business.
You know what it is and that’s good enough for us.
Hold that thought. Keep affirming that you not only want it, you need it, deserve it, and see it as yours.
Then put yourself on the path to get what you want. Figure out what it’s going to take. Break it down in to steps. Take the first step. Keep inching forward. Keep affirming that you are on the right track.
Occasionally consult with others to make sure you really are on the right track, especially if you start to have doubts or are unsure.
But all along the way keep affirming. You deserve it. It is practically yours.
Some day, long after you have manifested it, whiile you are enjoying all the benefits you knew you’d have if you accomplished your goal, you will wake up and realize that if you could accomplish this one thing then you can probably accomplish anything.
And then you will be onto something, something big.
Do you have everything you want? Is there anything more worth wanting? Go ahead. You are allowed to want. Don’t let other people shame it out of you. It just might be your soul talking.

I like this. I’ve been trying to think about what I want (mostly in terms of my writing life) recently. I know there’s a few projects I want, but I tend to flit to each one, which makes it hard to break them down into manageable pieces and progress at a decent rate.
I think it would be sad if I stopped wanting, because that would mean I stopped learning.
Thanks for making me think.
Oh my gosh, I abandoned a blog post on this very topic a few days ago, b/c I couldn’t figure out how to say, “It’s okay to want things” — in fact, it’s harder to get things if you don’t learn to be okay with wanting them.” I so agree with everything you’ve said here. Thank you so much for this post.
You’re welcome. Thanks for sharing your response.
You’re welcome. In some ways, I think what we want is the easiest path to our soul, so long as we are talking about true longing and not just passing superficial fancies.
