A writer has never approached me and said, “I want to do worse than I am doing. Can you help me?”
Writers usually work with me because they want a writing life and they don’t have one yet.
They also work with me because they have a writing life but they want to create better results.
Another reason writers work with me is because they want to get published or publish themselves and they need help understanding and navigating all the steps.
Writers who work with me all have one thing in common: they are willing to work.
They don’t expect me to wave a magic wand or let them into an elite club. They want me to put the writing ball back in their court. And then they take that ball and they run with it.
If they don’t or they won’t, nothing changes. But usually they are more than happy to, because that’s what they pay me for.
I can’t do your work for you, because you need to do it yourself, if you want to make skills your own. But sometimes an encouraging kick in the caboose goes a long way towards getting things done.
This explains why my students get published, win awards, earn invitations, get invited back, receive appreciation for their professionalism, etc. My students and clients stand out for two reasons: quality work and professionalism.
Professionals focus on creating quality. They are not just trying to make a quick buck. They know their careers are only as good as their reputations in the short run and the long run.
When I started creating video courses, I saw a lot of examples of how to do it poorly. But I knew if I kept my focus on creating quality products then my courses would be successful…and so would my students.
So when Cindy Hudson told me that she took one of my video courses, drafted an article, then edited it and sold it the next day, I thought, Great. This is working as I intended.
I’ve been working with Cindy for a long time. So when a guy I’ve never met before said my article writing course was one of the most comprehensive and best structured courses on article writing he had ever taken and he had been published professionally over 720 times, I thought, Awesome, now I know my courses are not only working for my long-time students. They are working for new students, too.
And finally, when a writing-for-publication student said she had learned more from my course than from all of the writing books on my shelf on the topic of selling her writing, I thought, Yes! My courses are serving less experienced and more experienced students equally, as I had hoped they would.
So the long and the short of this message is, if you want to become a better and more professional writer, I can help.
Believe it or not, success is fun.
What’s not really that much fun is failure, frustration, and false promises. And you won’t find those things here.
I started off this post by saying, so you want to become a more professional writer?
