Because I like and respect Allison Winn Scotch so much, I am going to give you ten reasons why, you should stop whatever you are doing right now and either purchase her book or plan to get to a bookstore to purchase it today:
- Allison has been sharing her publishing ups, downs and advice with other writers in her blog, “Ask Allison,” since July of 2006. That’s almost four years of doing something she doesn’t have to do.
- The cover is way, way cool. (She gets the best covers, I swear.)
- It’s not officially summer but it is JUNE! And we all need to stock up on beach/pool reads.
- I read Allison’s last book, Time of My Life and thoroughly enjoyed myself. I’m pretty sure I was done within 48 hours.
- Because she will send you an autographed book plate if you order by June 10th.
- I had a massage and recommended Time of My Life to my masseuse. She recommended it to her book club and they all also thoroughly enjoyed it. (Note: A great summer book club book!)
- Because, if you are an aspiring novelist, her agent, Elizabeth Weed, will read your query and first chapter if you purchase the book by June 5th. (If my novel was ready, I would totally do this.)
- And if you are an aspiring novelist, you should buy her book because she goes the extra distance for debut novelists.
- Because, if you are still not sold, you can read about Allison in Redbook or watch her on TV, until you are sold. It won’t take long, I promise.
- When my second book, Get Known Before the Book Deal, first came out, Allison graciously reached out and supported it. When I asked if I could send her a book, she said she’d prefer to buy her own copy. I can still hear the music in my ears…
Let me see…what else?
Ah. The book description. Of course.
Here you go:
What if you woke up one day to all your dreams coming true…but those dreams were more like nightmares?
Tilly Farmer is thirty-two years old and has the perfect life she always dreamed of: married to her high school sweetheart, working as a school guidance counselor, trying for a baby. Perfect.
But one sweltering afternoon at the local fair, everything changes. Tilly wanders into a fortune teller’s tent and meets an old childhood friend, who offers her more than just a reading. “I’m giving you the gift of clarity,” her friend says. “It’s what I always thought you needed.” And soon enough, Tilly starts seeing things: her alcoholic father relapsing, staggering out of a bar with his car keys in hand; her husband uprooting their happy, stable life, a packed U-Haul in their driveway. And even more disturbing, these visions start coming true. Suddenly Tilly’s perfect life, so meticulously mapped out, seems to be crumbling around her. And as she furiously races to keep up with – and hopefully change – her destiny, she faces the question: Which life does she want? The one she’s carefully nursed for decades, or the one she never considered possible?
What if you could see into the future? Would you want to know what fate has in store?
And now if you will excuse me, I have an appointment with my debit card…and I’m looking forward to what I know will be a totally engaging and absorbing read.
Thanks, Allison. For all you do and all you’ve done.
