I like many colors but green is my favorite. For years I loved green because it seemed so connected to nature- at times the ocean has a green tint; I love the year round green of the pine, spruce, and hemlock trees where I grew up; the soft green of new plants in the vegetable garden when they first sprout through the
soft earth; the carpet of grass that surrounds the house. There is a religious feeling about the respect I have for the nature around me, the places where I grew up and have lived.

On the personal side, as an adult I am drawn to green clothes because they complement my green eyes. I come from a family of
brown eyed people on my mom’s side so having green eyes set me apart. There was no apparent reason for my green eyes. It was not until I was much older, a grandma in fact, that I learned in my father’s family green eyes are dominant.

I don’t remember him. Eventually I discovered his three other children and even with three different moms the biggest common denominator is that we all have green eyes. Green feels like a natural part of who I am. Even my grand-kids know, and when asked what is Grammy’s favorite color they shout in
    unison-GREEN!
